My point is, they are profiting ridiculously off of their subscription model I never wanted to even partake in, but knew I had to comply when certain file types began to not work right with newer releases.

But most folks I knew back then, loved and kept some of the first Adobe Photoshop software because they didn't see the point in updating.

I didn't have to pay monthly for the rest of my being, and it is your choice whether you care to update to the most recent updates. The Adobe Suite I used to buy I think was around $800-1,200 depending on the bundle, BUT - I owned it. Let me give you a number: $14,000 for 20 years is what you will pay with the subscription model. Now, for all the years I have used their programs - If I had to pay the $700/year - I could have bought and owned their software for WAY less than what I could have spent if the subscription model started in '98. They make a killing off of designers/artists each year with a monthly subscription of $50+ a month.

I was researching just now as I was curious about a 3D modeling program and wanted to see if Adobe offered anything, because I realized there wasn't anything offered to experiment within all the freakin apps I don't use (like you stated) - and figured I could download it if there was - but was shocked to see the "try" / "buy" options.Īfter reading the TOP answer as to why they can't include ALL their apps within the subscriptions, I call hogwash. Sure, it was a lot to cough up to buy up front - but it was MINE. We didn't have to be connected to WiFi or any online BS to use their programs. They are DEFINITELY making a killing off of their consumers compared to when we could just OWN the software and update if we felt like it. I remember when they started their subscription model, I was extremely hesitant to join.as I had calculated how much it would cost me for my lifetime, as opposed to when I previously had just OWNED the software. Or, is this just a simple oversight that they haven't gotten to yet since everything was just announced yesterday? If anyone has any info please please let me know! Wtf Adobe? Pretty sure that's false advertising which I'm pretty sure is illegal.ĭoes anyone know what's going on with this? Is Adobe really being one cheap ass multi-billion dollar company just cuz they want more of my own hard-earned money? Dick move Adobe. So wtf is going on? Is Adobe really gonna make a struggling-to-afford-college student pay a couple hundred dollars a year for 4 apps, just so they can be even cheaper and not include it in their creative cloud plan? I also wanna say, I went onto Creative Cloud Plans and Licensing page and it says in large, bolded font "All Apps". But, what I'm confused about, is that they have buttons that say "Try" and "Buy", nothing that says "Install" like the other Adobe programs. I scrolled down to the bottom and there's a section that says "Apps to Try" and right there are the Substance programs. So I went into the app and as I scroll past the 20+ apps, many of which I will never use in my life, I see they all have the "Install" button underneath them.

But with the announcement I checked on the creative cloud app to see if I'd be able to just download the newer versions or whatever you wanna call them, and I cant.ītw my school offers the ENTIRE Adobe suite to all students free of charge, which is how I have it. So I've been using Painter and Designer through a FREE student license. So with the announcement, and everyone being pissed about it, I was looking into how it would realistically affect me.
